Cavemen win wrestling team regionals

Mishawaka defeated Riley to win the wrestling team sectional champion.

Wednesday, the Cavemen defeated the Wildcats again, this time for the Regional Championship.

Mishawka won 41-21 to advance to next Wednesday's Semi-State at Rochester.

The Cavemen destroyed Plymouth 61-6 earlier in the night to advance to the finals.

Mishawaka scored pins from Brandon Mersich at 152 pounds and Caleb Norville at 171 pounds in the win over Plymouth.

In the heavyweight division, Cavemen Randy Morin defeated Justin Deurloo in a battle of Individual Sectional Champions.

Riley reached the finals thanks to the strength in its top weight classes.

Trailing early on to Rochester, the Wildcats rattled off three consecutive pins at 189 pounds, 215 pounds and heavyweight en route to a 50-19 win over the Zebras.

Kyle Brocerd pinned Phil Miller at 189. Then defending state champion George Malone improved to 32-0 with a quick pin on Cody Gamble. Mike Palmer finished off the series by pinning Ben Long.
