Kingsmen, Panthers win in NIC Tourney games

The NIC Tournament is underway and there were already some near shockers.

In game 3 of the day one's tripleheader at Clay high school, winless Elkhart Central gave Washington a fight to the very end.

Central came out firing and took an early 16-9 lead in the game.

Washington led just 55-54 in the final minutes before going on a huge run to close out the game and win 70-56.

The Panthers will now face Penn in Friday's semifinals.

The Kingsmen defeated Adams in Wednesday's 2nd game.

Penn led by 8 at the half before the Eagles battled back at the start of the 3rd. Anthony Saunders tied the game at 34 with a layup.

But Penn went on a 16-2 run from there and avoided a 3-game losing streak with the 59-46 win.

Ryan Choiniere led the way for Penn with 16.

Adams and Central now move to the loser's bracket.
In the 1st game of the day, Riley defeated Marian 79-70. Because the NIC has 9 teams, this was a play-in game.

Riley will now face St. Joseph in a first round contest on Thursday at 6:30 at Clay.

Mishawaka and Clay will follow in the final 1st round game.

The semifinals of the tourney are scheduled for Friday night with the championship game set for 8pm on Saturday.

All games are at Clay High School.
