The Big House could be in big trouble with the government.

The Justice Department today asked to join a paralyzed veterans' group in its lawsuit demanding more wheelchair-accessible seating at the University of Michigan football stadium.

The Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America sued the school about a year ago. It claims the existing stadium is inaccessible.

And the group goes on to say a 226 million-dollar renovation will neither fix the problem nor bring the stadium into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A hearing on the government's motion is set for 10 tomorrow morning before U.S. District Judge Sean Cox in Detroit.

There was no immediate response from U-of-M lawyers.

University officials released a statement saying they believe Michigan Stadium does, and will, comply with the ADA. They say they intend to continue with their existing renovation plan.

Plaintiffs' lawyer Richard Bernstein accuses U-of-M of trying to skirt ADA requirements by arguing that they're repairing the stadium, not remodeling it.
