Lloyd Carr says he's retiring after 13 seasons as Michigan's football coach.
The announcement at a morning news conference opens up the job leading the nation's winningest program.
He said at the conference that (quote) "no one has more to be thankful for than I do" (unquote) as Thanksgiving approaches.
The Tennessee native and "Michigan man" was groomed for the position by the legendary Bo Schembechler. He leaves after having directed the Wolverines to 121 wins, five Big Ten titles and a national championship.
