A New Boston Huron High School football player has died more than a month after being injured in a game.

The Monroe Evening News and the Detroit Free Press report 18-year-old Derek Greca died Tuesday at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound senior was injured in the October 12th game against Carleton Airport High School.

Greca was tackled and suffered damage to his spleen and small intestine. He was hospitalized and had surgery. Greca later was transferred to Henry Ford Hospital, where he had been in intensive care.

A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday.
