Two years ago, the St. Joseph Bears were 0-9.
Then Elliot Uzelac took over as head coach and everything instantly changed.
On Saturday, St. Joseph erased a 21-0 deficit and beat Lansing Sexton in the Division 3 Regional Championship game.
The Bears are headed to the state semi-finals for the first time since 1997.
Down 21-0, The Bears caught a huge break in the 2nd quarter when Lansing fumbled at its own one yard line. Ethan Schweir jumped on the loose ball and got it into the endzone to make it 21-7.
Before the half, Schweir (also St. Joe's starting quarterback) connected with Matt Jewell for a touchdown to make it 21-14 after two quarters.
In the 3rd quarter, Schweir hit his favorite target, Brad Guinane to tie the game at 21-21.
After Lansing Sexton regained the lead 27-21, Ryan Bock ran in a touchdown to give the Bears the lead for good.
St. Joseph now looks to reach the State Championship for the first time since 1988 when they lost in the finals.
That was the last time the Bears were undefeated this late in the season.
