People are honoring a Notre Dame graduate who died while chasing his dream of becoming an Olympian.
A memorial service was held Thursday night in northern Michigan for 28-year-old Ryan Shay.
Shay collapsed and died last Saturday in New York City during the Olympic time trials.
Hundreds of community members ran around a candle lit track on Thursday night in honor of Shay. Those who knew him call him an amazing person and an amazing athlete.
Ryan Shay graduated from Notre Dame in 2002.
He will be laid to rest on Sunday in East Jordan, Michigan.
