Girardi offered Yankees job

Joe Girardi is the choice to succeed Joe Torre as the manager of the Yankees.

Girardi was an average major league player as a catcher for the Cubs, Yankees, Cardinals and Rockies. He was always considered a future manager as he worked hard to learn all the aspects of the game.

In 2006, he was the skipper of the Marlins and was named Manager of the Year before being fired in a personality dispute with ownership.

Girardi is a graduate of Northwestern where he obtained a degree in engineering
