The settlement over the University of North Dakota's "Fighting Sioux" nickname might put the school's next president in a difficult position.
The chairman of a search committee says the new president might have to seek support for the continuation of the nickname or lose support of important constituencies.
The settlement with the NCAA gives North Dakota officials three years to persuade Sioux tribes to support it or the nickname will be retired.
Teams that have continued using Indian nicknames with the NCAA's blessing include the Florida State University Seminoles, Central Michigan University Chippewas and the University of Utah Utes.
