Apparently Kelvin Sampson didn't learn his lesson at Oklahoma.
Already serving sanctions from the NCAA for excessive phone calls to recruits while the head coach at Oklahoma, 2nd-year Hoosiers coach Kelvin Sampson has committed a similar offense at Indiana.
IU will lose a scholarship for the '08-'09 season and Sampson will not receive a $500,000 raise as a result.
Sampson has not been allowed to make off-campus recruiting trips as part of punishment from his days at Oklahoma.
According to school officials, an IU assistant would go on the trips and then connect Sampson to the recruits via a 3-way call.
3-ways calls were also prohibited by the sanctions.
The actions were not isolated. According to IU, this occurred about 10 times.
As additional punishment, Sampson must go another full year without being able to go on off-campus recruiting trips.
Sampson says he and his assistants did not intend to break the rules.
