A state judge in Virginia will set a trial date for Michael Vick and three co-defendants in his dogfighting case next month.

Vick and the others aren't expected to be at the November 27th hearing at which the date will be set.

A prosecutor says he hopes to begin the trial as soon as possible.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback has already pleaded guilty to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge. He's awaiting sentencing December 10th.

He's now facing state charges. He was charged last week in a rural Virginia county, home to the dogfighting enterprise since 2001.

Vick is facing two felony counts for beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs and engaging in or promoting dogfighting. Each felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Vick has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL without pay.
