Newt Gingrich spent his first day under Secret Service protection Thursday campaigning in Mississippi, part of his do-or-die push in the South.

Gingrich's aides have said he needs to win Tuesday's contests in
Alabama and Mississippi to justify staying in the race. He's already scrapped weekend plans to campaign in Kansas ahead of the Saturday caucuses. Instead, he'll meet with voters in the South, his adopted home and where he's chalked his two wins in the 2012 campaign.

But the idea that yet another dramatic rebound may not be in the
cards this time seems to be taking hold.

Gone was the prediction after winning Tuesday's Georgia primary,
that yet another comeback lay ahead.
