In the presidential race, Republican John McCain is dismissing polls that say he is falling behind Democrat Barack Obama.

McCain talked to Tom Brokaw on Sunday's "Meet the Press" and says he disagrees with the majority of polls, which show him anywhere from three to 11 points behind Obama.

McCain told Brokaw the race is close and he is in a position to win the election.

"I'll take the verdict of the American people and I guarantee you two weeks from now, you will see this has been a very close race and I'm going to win it," said McCain.

"I don't want to dwell on these polls, but even if you had a big margin of error..." Brokaw said.

"I can show you, again, a Zogby poll, and our poll and other polls, that will show different numbers than the one you're showing...so...you're starting out with all due respect with fundamental assumptions that I don't agree with," McCain replied.

McCain spent the day campaigning in Iowa.

We don't have early voting in Pennsylvania... but I wish we did...I am an independent and there is nothing mccain and his imploding campaign can say or do at this point that would change my mind. It's funny... I started out believing I would vote for mccain..... after he chose palin, I thought him reckless and got on the fence...when he started with the character attacks and fear mongering... I recognized mcsame.... Voting Obama... today, tomorrow and next Tuesday!

I remember when that propaganda minister of Iraq was speaking to reporters in Iraq. He was saying that the Americans would never make it to Baghdad, but at the time a bunch of American tanks were parked in downtowm Baghdad. We all knew the truth, but the people in Iraq couldn't watch CNN, FOX, ABC etc. Now McCain is going to try and tell us that he is only a bit behind and that the election is going to be close, but we all watch the news and know that he is double digits behind in most poll of polls. There hasn't been a President since Reagan who had those kind of numbers. I would expect the numbers to just get worse and worse for McCain and in the end many of his supporters won't bother to go and vote because they know it will be a pointless gesture. At least we won't have to listen to all this nonsense much longer.
