The first of two forums for candidates seeking to fill the vacant state House 29th District seat representing Pontiac and Auburn Hills will be hosted by the Oakland County Democratic Party and a coalition of business and community organizations.

The one-hour structured debate begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at
Baker College in Auburn Hills.

Democratic State Rep. Tim Melton of Auburn Hills resigned last
month.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has called for a special election to
fill the vacancy. Snyder set primary elections for Nov. 8, if they are needed. The general election will be Feb. 28. Both dates already are scheduled election days in Michigan.

The special election would fill Melton's seat through the end of
2012.

The second debate is scheduled Tuesday in Pontiac.
