There were a couple of surprises as incumbents were bumped in some districts of the South Bend Common Council.

Current At Large member Al Kirsits was ousted from his position Tuesday.

Newcomer father and son duo Fred and Gavin Ferlic both won their respective primaries in the 4th District and At Large races.

Cole Belt will run for the 3rd District for the GOP.

Cole Belt said, “I saw the things that were going on in South Bend. It is not as great as it used to be, so I decided to throw my hat into the ring, for the city council job. Basically I want to run to make this city great again for my daughter.”

The top three At Large finishers were Gavin Ferlin, Derek Dieter, and current member Karen White.

Ferlic finished at the top with 24-percent of the vote, White was next with 21-percent, and Dieter was in third with 16-percent.

They beat out 5 other candidates for the Democratic nominations.
