The battle over Benton Harbor’s emergency financial manager, and the new Michigan law that gives him ultimate power, rages on.

Today, Rev. Jesse Jackson was back with talk of a lawsuit.

Jackson joined Michigan Congressman John Conyers, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, Benton Harbor Mayor Wilce Cook, and several of the city’s elected officials.

They denounced the new law signed by Gov. Rick Snyder that gives emergency financial managers the ability to strip local officials of most of their power, which is exactly what happened in Benton Harbor.

Jackson says they will now file a lawsuit, challenging the law’s constitutionality.

“It simply decimates democracy and gives dictatory powers in someone who does not live here but has the power to sit down officials and cancel contracts, but have power over assets selling off the properties of the city and its assets, that's un-American” says Jackson.

Jackson also spoke about his plans to expand his “rainbow push coalition” statewide in Michigan, including a chapter in Benton Harbor.
