MSNBC political opinion host Rachel Maddow used her show to speak against the expanded power for emergency financial managers, but State Rep. Al Pscholka said she's not reporting the facts.

"When it comes to czars, when it really comes to czars, what's happening in Benton Harbor, Michigan is czar with a capital C or T depending on how you spell it. This is really, really, really big intrusive government. This is sit down, shut up, your elections don't matter. We're in charge now, authoritarian, giant government," said Maddow on Tuesday night's broadcast.

Maddow spent more than 15 minutes addressing Public Act 4 and the expanded roles of state appointed financial managers.

"The state is not only coming in and saying we don't care who you elected to represent you, we're firing them and taking over ourselves. The state is also claiming the power to just abolish your town," said Maddow.

Pscholka, who represents Benton Harbor and authored P.A. 4 said Maddow is leaving out important details when discussing the law.

"I don't think she wanted folks to know that the City of Benton Harbor is $17 million in the hole, they've got a $10 million hole in their pension benefits and deficits have run for years. She didn't talk anything about financial accountability or conditions that led to a financial manager being appointed by the previous Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm. They did this on purpose," said Pscholka.

Benton Harbor city leaders said they were in talks with producers from The Rachel Maddow Show about making an appearance.

Pscholka said despite his conversations with producers he was not invited to tell his side.

"I think her reports have been some of the biggest pile of misinformation I've ever seen and then she's trying to link various things together into some bizarre conspiracy. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with the producer for The Rachel Maddow Show and they used a total of nine words I said in that whole interview. This was a hit piece. It's not journalism," said Pscholka.
