The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is planning to protest Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s recent budget proposal.
According to our reporting partners at WSJM, the AFL-CIO is planning to protest the proposal, which it calls anti-union and anti-democratic.
Snyder’s $45 billion budget proposal calls for cuts to universities and local governments, as well as the termination of many tax breaks.
It also recommends that public school funding be cut by $470 per student.
The AFL-CIO believes that the budget will cause local government and school districts to fall into emergency financial situations and be placed under the control of emergency financial managers, who they believe will remove collective bargaining and elected officials.
