Congressman Joe Donnelly and his staff closed their South Bend office early Wednesday to help folks dig out.

Congressman Donnelly joined our others in out viewing area for the cold and tiring task of clearing driveways and sidewalks.

He and his staff helped neighbors near Coquillard School in South Bend.

Congressman Donnelly says in times like this, it is important to look out for your neighbors.

Congressman Donnelly said, “If everybody just keeps an eye out for your neighbor, just tries to be a good neighbor, we have a lot of seniors, folks who may not be able to get around in their yard, if we can keep an eye out for each other, I think that's a great thing and that's who we are as Hoosiers."

Donnelly was not the only lawmaker with the day off Wednesday. Both the Indiana and Michigan State Houses were closed.

Michigan is closed again Thursday.
