Candidates for mayor in South Bend and in Mishawaka have been turning in their paperwork, and making their campaigns official.

In Mishawaka, State Representative Craig Fry (D) announced his candidacy. Fry was just elected to his 12th term in the Indiana Statehouse, but says he wants to get back to his hometown to create jobs and improve education.

Fry said, “I love Mishawaka like nobody else; I care about the people, I care about our schools, I will make a difference. We have a plan, we can make it work, and we're going to make Mishawaka move from good to great.”

Fry broke with tradition by filing in the city of Mishawaka as opposed to the court house in South Bend.

Current Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood says he will make a formal announcement about his plans on February 3 at Mishawaka Republican Headquarters.

Wood was elected by a caucus in September to replace former mayor Jeff Rea who took a job as president of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce.
