There will soon be a new sheriff in St. Joseph County, and Friday Mike Grzegorek made two key administrative appointments.

Tim Decker will serve as chief. Decker comes from the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.

Bob Boits will serve as assistant chief.

He is a retired county officer, who was most recently working private security.

Sheriff-elect Grzegorek also announced that he will conduct an evaluation of county jail operations that will involve interviewing each and every jail employee.

Sheriff-elect Grzegorek said, "We want to get everybody's views, those police departments that use our facility, as well as the people that work inside our facilities, the jail the other security division to look at everybody's ideas and what they think our problems are."

Grzegorek faces another challenge in that nine police officers with ranks of Lieutenant and up will be retiring at the end of this year.
