Election Day is less than three weeks away and Wednesday night the candidates for St. Joseph County Sheriff met for a debate.
Republican Jim Fox and Democrat Mike Grzegorek met at IUSB. The public was invited, and wrote down questions for the candidates on note cards.
For the most part, the opponents saw eye to eye on things, like keeping the community safe. They seemed to disagree on experience and spending within the Sheriff's Department.
Mike Grzegorek said, "Our new sheriff needs to be someone who is proven, who will not play partisan politics, who understands the needs of the department and our community, and who has a proven track record with success."
Jim Fox said, "We need to look at the way we're doing things and the way we're spending money, and I think we can take some money and replace some people that have left that have not been replaced :30 that's resulted in more danger to you in this community."
The debate was sponsored by the IUSB American Democracy Project, Political Science Club, the Criminal Justice Association and the League of Women Voters.
