Henry Ford once said "Anyone who stops learning is old - whether at 20 or 80." If that is true, kids who visit the Ft. Wayne Children’s Zoo will be young forever, and the zoo is fine with that.

It is 38 acres of plants, animals, and education.

“They can dress up like a scientist, they can drive a land rover, they can ride a ride, tons of things to do to keep kids active and engaged and learning while at the zoo,” says Cheryl Piropato, education director at the zoo.

This is one of the most highly acclaimed children's zoos in the country. There is no detail overlooked when it comes to making kids a priority.

The zoo physically makes things easier for mom and dad as well.

“Everything we've done, we've done with kids in mind,” says Piropato. “The viewing areas are low so you don't have to lift your child out of a stroller to look into an exhibit.”

“It's really easy to walk around, and it's clean, and it's kid-friendly,” says Jonica Bergman, a mother visiting the zoo.

Pretty much the entire property is hands on, but there is one experience that towers above the others.

If it is a 19 foot-tall giraffe you want to feed, you can do that, and you do not have to be a kid.

The giraffes are part of the zoo’s new African Savannah, acres of African animals and landscape, allowing visitors to get face to face with its inhabitants.

“It is the most exciting, and newest, and best part of the zoo. If you're coming to Ft. Wayne and you can only do one area of the zoo, make sure it's the African journey.”

For a cooler, yet more tropical experience, head to the zoo's rainforest, complete with palm trees, vines, monkeys, and rare exotic plants.

Around the corner, you can stroll past the playing sea lions and head to the petting zoo where plenty of goats and a few horses will be waiting for you.

Throughout the day, you can visit many different parts of the world, and kids are not only allowed, but encouraged to march to the beat of a different drum.

“We know that kids like to do things, not just look at things, so the zoo is a great place for kids to get wild and have fun,” states Piropato.
