South Bend, Ind. For the 10th year, Logan Center is putting on an annual run, to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.
But for this year's anniversary, one individual has made it his mission, to do something special for an organization that changed his life.
Jamie McGraw, 27, has been working at the South Bend Medical Foundation for five years.
He has worked full time since 2008 as a cookie room attendant.
But Jamie also volunteers, at a location near and dear to his heart.
“I've been with Logan all my life, I have down syndrome,” says Jamie.
“He received a lot of therapies and everything through Logan and now he seems to want to give back,” explains Logan’s Director of Marketing Ann Lagomarcino.
For 10 years, Jamie has served as co-director for Logan's Run, volunteering his time, and talents with the organization.
His marketing skills aren't too shabby.
It was Jamie's idea to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the run by doing something special, something unique.
South Bend Medical Foundation has challenged him to a financial 10k along with running and walking as much as he can.
“I'm running a 10k with my trainer, Jeremy from Memorial Health and Lifestyle and I cannot wait to get on the road and run,” says Jamie.
In mid-July, Jamie completed a 5k run with supporters cheering him along the way
Friends and family say they are proud of what Jamie has accomplished.
His goal? Ten thousand dollars for Logan.
Jamie exceeded his goal.
But the funds don't stop there, even more will be rolling in after an august promotion.
South Bend Medical Foundation is backing him by offering any blood donor who comes in during the month of July or August, and is going to donate $5 for anybody who says they're here to donate for Jamie.
Jamie himself, has given blood 15 times.
"Today I roll my sleeves up and give blood for a good cause,” he said.
It's an all-encompassing challenge.
You can still register for Logan’s Run -- either on Friday night at a pasta dinner for participants, or on Saturday morning before the event.
