The Pita Grille is a lot of flavor stuffed into one shopping plaza on University Drive in Granger.
General Manager Talib Alway is an Iraqi born immigrant who helps bring plenty of flavor to this side of Michiana, in the form of Mediterranean cuisine.
Opening just two months ago, the restaurant already has regulars who come here, not only for the healthy eating, but also to save a few bucks.
It's easy on your wallet and also your waistline. Even the biggest plates are 600 calories or less.
Colors of Greece, France, and Morocco drape the walls, and the spices you taste are all imported and for sale.
Talib fires up the grill for some chicken, beef, and lamb kabobs which are part of the business lunch, a large plate of meats, humus, salad, rice and more.
There's also separate orders of humus, fresh baba ghannoug, with grilled pita for dipping.
The falafel is especially good here, which is season ground chick peas and veggies.
Talib says they're more than just a quick bite to eat. "The freshness, healthy, prepped every day," he says of his food.
The chicken, beef, or lamb shawarma pita pockets are packed to the brim with veggies, for less than $5.
Cooked grape leaves are hugely successful in Mediterranean restaurants. "We do two kinds of grape leaves," Talib says. "We do vegetarian, because we have very big demand on the vegetarian plates, and we do one with lamb meat ... onions, tomato, lamb meat and spices."
For dessert, there's freshly made baklava with a honey sauce.
The Pita Grille is located at 1214 E. University Drive in City Plaza.
