WNDU's Dream Wedding Contest will soon provide a local couple with $12,000 worth of prizes, from the gown and tux, to a Knollwood reception.
Traditional wedding vows unite a couple. "For better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health." There's a couple in Granger who haven't even said, "I do," but who really understand the meaning behind those vows.
They're determined to make love last, even when life throws them a curve.
Francesca Jimenez can't wait to walk down the aisle. Currently walking with a walker is part of her painful physical therapy.
Just a few months ago, Francesca and her fiance Ty Varga were involved in an accident. They were passengers in a car that made a wrong turn.
An SUV broadsided the car as it turned left on a red light, leaving them with critical injuries.
Ty hurt his shoulder, but Francesca suffered a broken pelvis, a fractured lower back, lacerated liver and multiple cuts and bruises.
"I couldn't even go to the bathroom by myself," Francesca explained. "I couldn't move. I couldn't sit up in the bed. I felt so bad, because Ty ... he was injured himself, and he does everything for me without complaining, without asking."
The accident left them unable to work. Ty was laid off from his job. Francesca had to step away from teaching.
They even moved out of their apartment to save money. They're currently living with friends.
The Dream Wedding Contest would help their dreams come true.
Their lives have changed so much since Ty proposed last fall.
He asked Francesca to join him for a picnic and took her to the botanical gardens in South Bend. After walking through the greenhouse, they came upon a table with flowers, champagne and a picnic basket.
"At this point, my nerves were a little up there," Ty said. " ... and I'm pulling stuff out of the basket, and I said, 'Francesca, I forgot the muffins.'"
Francesca continued, "When I reached in there, there was a box. So, I was kind of stumbling with the ribbon. By the time I opened it, I looked down, and he was down on one knee. And he asked me to marry him!"
She said yes and looks forward to spending their lives together, in good times and bad.
"He's just so incredilby patient and just encouraging. He's just wonderful."
It's up to you to vote for the couple you think most deserves to win the Dream Wedding contest.
Voting opens up Monday, March 12 on www.wndu.com.
