How many times have you been out in your backyard enjoying a barbecue with your family when flies show up and spoil the party?
Wouldn’t it be nice if they would just fly away?
Supposedly, a fly trap called the Flies Away can do just that.
You set it up away from where you are gathering, and that is where the flies will fly.
Now, this contraption claims you can trap 20,000 flies after a month, but would the Flies Away get swatted in our As Seen on TV test?
As the infomercial for Flies Away says, “You swat, you shoo, you spray, but those flies still do not go away….Flies Away, the fastest, easiest and most effective way to make flies go away for good. Flies Away goes to work in minutes, inviting thousands of flies in, but they can’t get out.”
The secret to the Flies Away, according to the manufacturer, is the lobster trap design that leads down to the bottom. That design, coupled with the non-toxic, biodegradable bait, will apparently attract flies by the thousands.
So, the first thing you do is hang the Flies Away, and you are told to hang it about forty to fifty feet away from where you will be gathering because the odor is pretty pungent. The key is to attract the flies to an area other than the one where you are having lunch or a barbecue.
Then, you take a quart of water, and you pour it into the Flies Away and add the non-toxic fly bait. Then, we attach the top.
After having the Flies Away up for about an hour, there was not a single fly that had been attracted to the pungent cocktail.
After one day, there was not one bug in the Flies Away. It stunk so bad that I had to move it off mt patio.
One week later, there was one fly in the bottom, an ant somewhere in the top, and a bunch of gnats.
I could leave the Flies Away up for four years before I would get 20,000 flies, so the Flies Away, figuratively and literally, stinks and gets the thumbs down.
By the way, the Flies Away is a one use trap. In other words, you cannot get refills. You have to buy a whole new trap once it is full.
I paid ten dollars for my Flies Away at CVS.
