Actor Andy Griffith's widow says her husband was "a person of incredibly strong Christian faith and was prepared for the day he would be called Home to his Lord."
The beloved star of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock" died Tuesday at his home in North Carolina at the age of 86.
In a statement, Cindi Griffith said she can't imagine life without her husband, but takes "comfort and strength in God's Grace and in the knowledge that Andy is at peace and with God."
As a child, Griffith sang and played trombone in Mount Airy's Grace Moravian Church. He studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and for a time contemplated a career in the ministry.
In 1997, Griffith won a Grammy Award for his album of gospel music "I Love to Tell the Story - 25 Timeless Hymns."
