Unyielding GOP politicians doing what voters ask

There's a reason Republicans are continuing to defy President Obama. It's what their constituents want.

Republican voters are less likely than others to support compromise. During a trip back to his Utah congressional district last week, Republican Jason Chaffetz heard an earful from citizens who support his stand against much of the president's agenda.

Chaffetz told voters he wants to explain Utah to Washington rather than the other way around. His constituents gave him plenty of encouragement. One asked why Obama hasn't been impeached. Others urged him to push harder on the Benghazi, Libya attack that killed four Americans, or for deeper spending cuts.

Analysts worry that this defiant talk damages the Republican brand. Chaffetz says the problem is the party hasn't communicated well with voters.
