The U.S. military's top general is in Afghanistan to discuss ways to deal with the recent surge in attacks on international forces by Afghan soldiers and police.

Once an anomaly, these attacks have been climbing in recent months.

There have been 30 such attacks so far this year, up from 11 in 2011. Ten U.S. troops have been killed in the past two weeks.
