Emergency workers are using cadaver dogs and cranes to search for corpses at the site of an airplane crash in Nigeria's largest city.
Nigeria's Red Cross reports 48 bodies have been recovered, but more are being dug out from the rubble. Officials say all 153 people aboard the Boeing MD-83 were killed, but it's unclear how many on the ground may have died.
The Nigerian airliner was flying from the capital, Abuja
when it went down in a densely populated section of Lagos (LAY'-gohs) yesterday, smashing into a number of buildings, including at least two apartment buildings.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. A military official says the pilots radioed to the Lagos control tower just before the crash, reporting engine trouble. Rescue workers are searching for the aircraft's black box recorders.
