STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. Authorities say a plane that took off from Steamboat Springs bound for Boulder is missing and has apparently crashed.

The Denver Post reports that search teams were preparing Saturday night to head toward the area where the plane is believed to have gone down in Routt County.

Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, tells the Post that the plane was a Piper PA-28 and two people were aboard.

Jim Linville, incident commander for Routt County Search and Rescue says the plane is believed to have gone down on Rabbit Ears Pass.

Linville says it is an area where there have been three previous plane crashes over the years.
