President Barack Obama is using the approaching September 11 anniversary to call for unity in the light of economic challenges facing the country.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama asked Americans to rekindle the spirit of unity that characterized the country's response to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
He says that unity can be a lasting, every day virtue.
Coming in the aftermath of bitter partisan fights over government spending and tough criticism of his administration by Republican presidential candidates, his remarks were an overt call for greater cooperation.
The anniversary commemorations are two weeks from now.
