BOSTON A new app encourages runners of all abilities to participate in the spirit of the 2014 Boston Marathon, despite their geographical locations.
In light of last year's tragic fatal bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, support and participation for the upcoming marathon on April 21st has been unprecedented.
While the field is limited to 36,000 athletes this year, even more runners want to participate.
Now, thanks to a new app, runners who can't be in Boston can still participate virtually.
Lagardere Unlimited has created a mobile app that connects runners from around the world to the Boston Marathon.
The Boston Marathon World Run app is free and allows runners to receive a "virtual marathon experience" by logging miles in the app on the day of the actual marathon.
Virtual runners can also interact with and support other virtual runners during the process.
And when you download the app, you can also donate to One Fund Boston, the charity to aid victims of last year's bombings and their families.
Boston Marathon World Run is now available in the app store on iPhone and Android.
It also can be experienced online at: www.bostonmarathonworldrun.org.
