INDIANAPOLIS Police say officers have arrested a woman on charges that she drove off after fatally striking a man in a wheelchair as he crossed a street near downtown Indianapolis.
Officers were called to the crash scene Wednesday night on Washington Street a few blocks west of the Indianapolis Zoo. They found a man in his 70s who was taken to a hospital in critical condition but he soon died.
Witnesses told officers they saw a car pull out from a nearby business at a high speed and hit the wheelchair.
Police say a witness gave the car's license plate information to officers and the car was later found. A 34-year-old woman was arrested on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving with a suspended license.
