Police say a man who initiated a standoff at a Twin Falls hotel after shooting a police officer in
the leg is holding at least one person hostage.

Twin Falls Police Department spokesman Luke Allen says police negotiators are talking with the suspect. He says the one known hostage is not a hotel employee.

Allen didn't know the hostage's age or gender or if that person was hurt.

Police say the trouble started when troopers tried stopping a motorist Friday and the driver launched a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed and ran into the hotel. An Idaho State Police officer who was chasing the suspect was shot in the leg and is being treated at a hospital.

Allen says a passenger was apprehended and is being questioned.

Police have evacuated the hotel and barricaded the area.
