A family friend says a 4-year-old boy was trying to make other children smile for a photograph when a 6-foot-tall tombstone that weighed hundreds of pounds fell on him and killed him at a historic Utah cemetery.
Curtis Morley tells The Associated Press that the boy and his family were at the Glenwood Cemetery in Park City on Thursday. The boy's father does photography in his spare time and was taking pictures of another family at the scenic cemetery.
Morley says some of the children being photographed were not being responsive, so the boy tried to help his father by pretending to be a leprechaun and making them laugh. He says the boy, Carson Dean Cheney of Lehi, was peeking out from behind the tombstone when it fell on him.
The child suffered head, chest and abdomen injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
