The hospital that had been treating Ariel Sharon says the former Israeli Prime Minister has died.
Hospital spokesman Dr. Shlomo Noy said Saturday: "The Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer announces with sorrow the death of Mr. Ariel Sharon who passed about an hour ago."
He said that during the years Sharon had been treated his condition was defined as "minimal consciousness" and he had had "ups and downs."
"Today his heart weakened and he peacefully departed from his family who were always at his side with love and support."
Governor Pence issued the following statement regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Governor Pence and First Lady Karen Pence met privately with former Prime Minister Sharon during a congressional delegation trip to Israel in 2004.
"Today, we mark the passing of Ariel Sharon, a soldier and a leader who served the nation of Israel in times of war and peace. Prime Minister Sharon dedicated his life to the security and well-being of our most cherished ally and he will forever be remembered with respect by her people and her friends. Our prayers are with his loved ones and all those who mourn the passing of this warrior and leader of Israel."
