Another death from the recent fungal meningitis outbreak was reported in Michigan on Jan. 3rd.
While the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) did not announce any new cases of the disease, on Thursday it reported that an 87-year-old woman from eastern Michigan in Washtenaw County died after receiving a tainted injection.
So far 11 people in Michigan who received steroid injections from the Massachusetts compounding pharmacy have died, along with eight people in Indiana. Of those 11 deaths one is associated with a stroke, two with epidural abscesses, and eight patients have been attributed specifically to meningitis.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted an investigation into the tainted injections and discovered 233 cases in Michigan, and over 600 nationwide.
