Cost of attending a wedding rises

Wedding season is here and that means more than 67 million Americans are planning to attend nuptials this year.

Wedding season is here and that means more than 67 million Americans are planning to attend nuptials this year.

According to the American Express Spending and Savings Tracker, guest will spend an average of $592 to attend a wedding.

That's up 10 percent from last year and 75 percent from 2012.

When it comes to purchasing gifts for the couple, wedding guest say they'll spend about $109, but, cash is the best gift of all; more than half of couples say that's their gift of choice.

And we can't forget about the food. Most wedding guests agree that delicious food is the most important component of a great wedding, and that can be the priciest aspect as well.
