Committee poised for contempt vote against Holder

A House committee is poised to vote on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over more Justice Department documents on a flawed gun-smuggling probe.

The probe known as Operation Fast and Furious resulted in illicitly purchased guns winding up at crime scenes in Mexico.

The likelihood of a contempt vote rose after Holder and Republican Rep. Darrell Issa of California failed to reach agreement in a 20-minute meeting today at the Capitol.

Issa wanted the documents immediately. Holder told reporters he
would not turn over documents unless Issa agreed to another
meeting. The attorney general said he would explain what is in the
materials at that time.
