Rescued Chilean miner Edison Pena dropped out of Sunday's New York City Marathon at the 11-mile mark.

Pena entered Sunday's 26.2-mile event again following a difficult year that included a hospitalization in Santiago for psychological problems and reported drug and alcohol issues.

He finished the Tokyo Marathon in February, but his recent training had dropped to 45 minutes a day, four days a week. The 35-year-old Pena said at a press conference Thursday in New York that he's been bothered by an injured left knee.
