WANSHIP, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says a wildfire burning near a mountain resort town in Utah has destroyed at least a dozen homes plus 15 other structures such as vehicles, sheds and boats.
Steve Rutter, a fire management officer with the state, says the homes were primary residences in the Lake Rockport Estates, a subdivision about 10 miles northeast of Park City.
The blaze also has forced the evacuation of hundreds of exclusive homes. It appears to have been started by lightning.
Herbert said Tuesday evening at a news conference that the fire has grown to 4,000 acres, or more than 6 square miles. It is 5 percent contained.
The governor says two Blackhawk helicopters will be used to fight the fire Wednesday.
Summit County Assessor Steve Martin says residences in Rockport Estates are worth around $250,000.
