The Latvian coast guard is going to evacuate a cruise ship that's been stuck for the past day on a sand bank off Latvia's coast.
Nearly 1,000 people have been stuck on the Mona Lisa since it ran aground early yesterday. The captain agreed to an evacuation today after efforts to free the ship failed.
A coast guard spokesman says the passengers and crew will be taken to a port city on board two navy ships.
The Bahamas-registered liner was on its way from Germany to the Latvian city, Riga, when it ran aground. Most of the passengers are German. The ship was apparently not damaged and officials have said there's been no danger to those on board.
