The White House says President Bush is inviting Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas to the White House in an effort to advance Mideast peace talks.

The plan was revealed to reporters on Air Force One Thursday by National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe, who was accompanying Bush on a flight to Ohio.

Johndroe said that although details are still being worked out, the talks at the White House likely will happen around May 1.
