Authorities in Panama say a 12-year-old American girl has survived a plane crash that killed three other people.

Rescuers are providing medical attention to Francesca Lewis, who is said to have suffered multiple traumas and hypothermia. But, cold, wet weather is preventing them from evacuating Lewis from the crash site and she is being treated in a makeshift shelter.

The civil aviation authority says the wreckage was located on the slopes of a remote volcano, at an elevation of about 3,500 feet. The plane had been missing since Sunday. Dense tropical foliage, mountainous terrain and heavy rains slowed air and land searches for the plane.

California businessman Michael Klein, his 13-year-old daughter Talia and Panamanian pilot Edwin Lasso were found dead at the crash site.

Klein's ex-wife says the 37-year-old hedge fund manager was on vacation with the two girls at an eco-resort he owns in Panama.
