About three dozen people linked to one of the country's top Sunni politicians, including the man's son, are being detained after U.S. and Iraqi troops found a bomb near a compound.

Also being held is a security guard who had keys to a suicide car bomb.

Military officials say five U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi civilian were injured trying to detonate the explosives, which were found near the compound of the leader of the biggest Sunni bloc in parliament.

Separately, officials say U.S. forces 155 miles north of Baghdad have detained 18 suspects and found two weapons caches after reports that al-Qaida in Iraq was using the area to plan attacks.
