An airline official says all 56 people onboard were killed when their plane crashed in Central Turkey early Friday.

A rescue helicopter has reached the wreckage of the Atlasjet plane in a mountainous region, and reports that there are no survivors. The Turkish airliner on a flight from Istanbul crashed shortly before it was to land.

The cause of the crash is not known, but the airline official says weather was not a factor, with no fog or strong winds at the time.

A Turkish TV station reports families of passengers are heading toward the crash scene.
