Coalition airstrikes kill Afghan construction workers

Coalition airstrikes have accidentally killed 14 construction workers in eastern Afghanistan in a raid based on bad intelligence.

An Afghan official says the workers who had been building a road in Nuristan province were sleeping in their tents when they were attacked Monday night.

Coalition forces received reports that Taliban and other militant fighters were in the area. Now, the construction company is asking the military to check out the source of the report. A director of the company thinks "the enemy of the Afghans" gave the Americans the wrong information.

The number of "friendly fire" incidents has dropped significantly in the past few months, after President Hamid Karzai pleaded with NATO and coalition troops to cooperate more closely with their Afghan counterparts.
