The president of France vows that rioters who've been shooting at police will be found and brought to justice.

Nicolas Sarkozy met with a wounded police captain in a hospital today after returning from a trip to China. Afterward, he called this week's violence in the Paris suburbs "absolutely unacceptable."

Cars were set ablaze for a third straight night Tuesday and about 40 people were arrested. But the violence wasn't as bad as on Sunday and Monday nights, when dozens of police officers were hurt.

The riots were triggered by the deaths of two teens killed when their motorbike collided with a police car. Residents say police left the scene in a neighborhood north of Paris without helping the teens. French officials deny that.

Sarkozy calls the deaths "distressing."
